Anthisan Bite & Sting Cream

Anthisan Cream is a type of antihistamine used for the relief of insect bites, stings and nettle rash. Anthisan Cream works by relieving the pain, itching and inflammation from insect bites, stings and nettle rash. It works to effectively stop allergic reactions to bites and stings.

Overview of Anthisan Cream

Condition it treats:Insect bites, stings, and nettle rash
Type of drug:Antihistamine cream
Brand names:Anthisan
Active ingredient:Mepyramine maleate
Available strengths:2% cream
Common side effects:Skin irritation, redness, or rash (rare)
Patient Information Leaflet:For more information on the medication please refer to the Anthisan Cream Patient Information Leaflet

It contains a medicine called mepyramine maleate. This belongs to a group of medicines called antihistamines, which block the substance known as histamines. Histamines are produced by the body when triggered by certain allergens and create the allergic reaction.

When travelling abroad, a lot of people get bites and stings. However, if your body is more susceptible to them, you might find that they swell or that the skin surrounding them goes red. If you are allergic to bites and stings then you will find them more uncomfortable than those who are not, and can use Anthisan Cream to reduce the reaction.

Follow the guidance given in the enclosed patient information leaflet and be sure to read it before commencing use of the medicine.

Use by applying the cream directly to the affected skin. Do not use it on broken or damaged skin, or skin affected by eczema. For best results, use as soon as possible after being bitten or stung.

The recommended dose of Anthisan Cream is to apply it two or three times a day for up to three days. If your symptoms have not improved or if they have actually worsened after the 3 days then seek medical advice. Only use more often if directed to do so by your doctor. If you forget to use it then simply skip the forgotten dose and apply the next one normally. Do not double up to make up for a missed one.

Before taking this medication, you should always first check that it is suitable for you and any of your associated medical conditions. Do not take if:

  • If you are allergic to any of the ingredients

Because of the way that medications interact with each other, you should talk to a doctor before taking Anthisan Cream if you are already taking any other medications.

Talk to a doctor before using if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

You should cease using Anthisan Cream immediately and contact your doctor if you experience any serious side effects or if you notice signs of an allergic reaction.
