Fingertip Pulse Oximeter
More information
What is a fingertip pulse oximeter?
A fingertip pulse oximeter is a medical device that is used to measure the oxygen saturation of human blood. This device is to be used at home, however, many people may have seen them when they have visited the hospital as they are often used in critical care settings such as A&E.
What is oxygen saturation?
Blood oxygen saturation is what a finger pulse oximeter will measure. It is a measurement of the efficiency of your blood at carrying oxygen to the extremities. Oxygen saturation is the fraction of oxygen-saturated haemoglobin relative to the total number of haemoglobin in the blood. A normal level of blood oxygen saturation is around 97 to 100%. Any value under 90% is considered to be low blood oxygen saturation.
How does a finger pulse oximeter work?
A fingertip pulse oximeter is designed to sit comfortably on the end of the finger. The device will then shoot beams of light into your skin and will use this to measure the amount of oxygen in your blood. The device monitors changes in light absorption between oxygenated and deoxygenated blood, providing a reading of oxygen saturation.
Where can you buy a fingertip pulse oximeter?
You can purchase a fingertip pulse oximeter online from UK Meds, you can even get next-day delivery when you make your purchase before 4pm.
