What are FFP3/N99 masks?
FFP3 masks filter 99.8% of particles from the air, including the small respiratory droplets where Coronavirus can be found. These droplets are released when a person coughs, sneezes or even simply breathes. This mask is well suited to filter contaminated respiration droplets from the air you breathe.

What is the difference between 'moulded' and 'folded'?
Our FFP3 face masks come in different styles, depending on which fit you would prefer. Both options have the same level of protection against the filtration of COVID-19 particles, the choice is simply about comfort. The moulded mask is a cup-sized, rigid, fixed mask that cannot be bent or the shape altered. It is very comfortable and easy to wear, as you simply place it straight onto your face. The folded mask is lighter and can be adjusted and bent. The folded mask is easy to store in handbags and is recommended for glasses wearers as the nose can be pinched, in order to place under your glasses to avoid fogging.
What are the face masks used for?
The Hygiene Face Masks are recommended for use in any situation where protection of the respiratory system is required. The World Health Organisation advises that an EU standard FFP2 or FFP3 should be worn by healthcare workers when performing any aerosol-generating procedures.
Are the medical respirators re-usable?
These medical respirators are not marked as reusable medical respirators.
However, the OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) directive indicates that a mouth mask can be reused as long as it "maintains its structural and functional integrity and the filter material is not physically damaged or soiled".
I have a beard/facial hair, which mask would be best for me?
Sadly we cannot guarantee complete protection if you do have a beard or considerable facial hair, as this can interfere with the seal of the mask. Our FFP3 medical respirators offer the highest level of protection, so we would recommend this product to anyone concerned, but with the knowledge that their beard or facial hair could lower this level of protection.

How do FFP3 Face Masks work?
The Hygiene Face Masks are FFP3 grade and have a higher level of protection than FFP1 or FFP2. Because FFP3 Face Masks offer a higher amount of protection, they are more expensive than FFP2 Face Masks.

Which mask should I get?
With the many types of masks available, it can be confusing which type you should get. Here at UK Meds we have many types, including FFP3. Is the FFP3 the best mask? It depends on your intended use. The WHO isn't recommending any particular mask, they would even consider cloth masks acceptable. However, in situations where you need the best filtration, FFP3 is an excellent choice. It is all dependent on your coverage needs. If you are usually at home and only outside for occasional shopping, an FFP1 or FFP2 is perfectly fine. But if you are around the public often, such as a healthcare worker or in retail, an FFP3 would be much more suitable.
You can learn more about which mask is more suitable for you in our handy blog post: What's the difference between FFP1, FFP2, and FFP3 face masks?
What’s the difference between an RD and NR D mask?
Respirators are not only graded as either FFP1, FFP2 or FFP3, but these markings will normally be followed by RD or NR D. These letters indicate whether the respirator is designed to be reusable.
‘R’ means that the respirator is reusable, while ‘NR’ indicates that it is non-reusable. The ‘D’ on both examples indicates that they meet the additional requirement of the dolomite clogging test (standard EN149).
This test checks whether the mask maintains a good level of breathing resistance after being exposed to high levels of dolomite dust. So, it ensures that a mask can be worn over a long period, even at high levels of dust concentration.
