Noriday tablets are oral contraceptives that contain the active ingredient norethisterone, a synthetic version of one of the female sex hormones – progesterone. It is a progesterone-only pill, unlike the combined contraceptive pills that contain both progesterone and estrogen.
Noriday is to be taken at the same time each day for the entire course of the treatment. It is not like the other contraceptive pills that have a pill-free break.
How does Noriday work?
Noriday works in three different ways:
- It thickens the fluid at the entrance of womb to make it difficult for sperm to travel inside and fertilize an egg.
- It changes the lining of the womb to make it harder for fertilized eggs to grow there.
- It prevents the ovaries from releasing a matured egg.
What benefits come from taking Noriday?
The main benefit of taking Noriday tablets is the prevention of pregnancy. As long as you take the pills correctly, you are protected against getting pregnant.

Noriday Mini Pill
Always follow the instructions given by your doctor or family practice nurse when taking Noriday tablets. Otherwise, the following rules will apply.
The packet of Noriday contains 28 tablets, with a blister strip marked by the days of the week above the pills. There is an arrow that indicates the direction in which the pills should be taken. If you start your packet on a Monday, you will press your first pill through the blister fill that is marked with “Mon,” and for you take the next pill from “Tue” and so on.
You should take one Noriday pill per day at around the same time, preferably before you go to bed every day in the month. When you take Noriday pills, there is no seven-day break from the pills, unlike the other contraceptive pills.
Swallow the Noriday tablets whole, without crushing or chewing them.
If you forget or have missed a pill, follow the instructions on the patient information leaflet that comes with the medicine package.
If you remember missing a dose less than three hours from when you usually take your daily pill, take it as soon as you remember and carry on with the next pill on the next day as usual. Your protection against pregnancy will not be affected.
If it has been more than three hours from the time you usually take your daily pill, take it as soon as you remember and continue with your normal dose the next day. Use additional protection, such as a condom, for the next seven days because of the risk of getting pregnant.
Start a new packet of Noriday by taking the first pill on the first day of your next period when your usual bleeding begins. For the first seven days of taking Noriday, you will not be adequately protected against pregnancy. It is good to take extra precautions like the use of condom for the next seven days.
